The Quarterly Review 1954-1960

The current Quarterly Newsletter was started by Dr Ross Gurney back in July 1995, but it was not the first such Newsletter put out by Canberra Baptist.  Back in December 1954 a publication titled Canberra Baptist Church Quarterly Review was released.  It was the first of a series of 19 such Newsletters distributed between December 1954 and August 1960.

The Newsletter was instigated by Rev. Fred McMaster and seems to have been based on a number of other like publications, including a similar type of Newsletter put out at Mr McMaster’s previous church, Grafton District Baptist.

The Newsletters were usually four printed pages and included a message from the Minister, news about church bodies such as the Boys and Girls Brigades, sporting clubs within the church, the Ladies Fellowship, coming events and other items of interest. 

Jack Pettifer was the Newsletter Editor and they contain some valuable historical information. Jack kindly donated a full set of the Quarterly Review to our archives.
