Ladies Fellowship

The Ladies Fellowship of the Canberra Baptist Church has been meeting since the opening of the church, apart from a few years following the death of Mrs Waldock, the wife of the first minister of the church and the first President of the Ladies Fellowship.

The Fellowship has a two-fold purpose:

Ø      To come together for meetings of devotions, inspiration, and challenge and,

Ø      to work together to help others.

The women meet in the church lounge for about two hours on the first Wednesday morning of each month. The meetings begin with morning tea - a time for a cuppa and a chat. This is followed by the formal meeting where any business is attended to as well as a time of devotions and a speaker. Over the years we have had a great variety of speakers who have informed, inspired and challenged us.

There is a very good sense of fellowship and care for one another amongst the women. The group, however, is also very outward looking and we financially support many organisations and individuals.

Every year we support two children through ABWAid's SAO program and about 10 organisations – this amounts to an average of at least $2,500 per year. The money raised for this support comes from the hard work of the ladies in making goods for the trading table at the monthly meetings, from special events such as mini-fetes or stalls at our church Easter festival and from our monthly offerings.

Every month we also have an offering for The Fellowship of the Least Coin (5 cent pieces) that goes to Australian Church Women's (ACW) projects. Our Fellowship is affiliated with both the ACW and the National Council of Women and the Baptist Women's Fellowship of NSW and ACT.

The Ladies Fellowship has fulfilled a very important role in the life of our church since the very beginning. Others are always welcome even if you can only come from time to time.
