QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER

Editorial

The Editorial Committee of the Quarterly Newsletter has been looking at ways of widening the scope of the Newsletter by building on the solid foundation set for us by Dr Ross Gurney in earlier editions.

The following ideas have been under consideration:

v     Having regular items in the Newsletter to “advertise” relevant activities of groups within the church. For example, how many of us know about the “Fellowship of the Least Coin”?  We think we should be telling people about this and other activities within the church and encouraging our members to support them. You can find out more about this very worthy ministry in this issue.

v     It is also our view that the Newsletter could give members more information about what is going on in the church and the people involved in projects, activities and the various programs.

v     The Newsletter could also be used to share the achievements of church members with the rest of the church family and for a variety of other purposes that will not duplicate what is done elsewhere and in the weekly church bulletin. We have a number of very interesting people around the church and we think that members would like to know about them.

v     Members may also want to hear more about what is happening among the youth of the church and we are currently looking for a youth reporter to give us a regular update on the youth front.

Some of these ideas are tried in this issue of the Newsletter and we would welcome comment from readers. The feedback we received on the Anniversary edition earlier this year indicated that a number of readers, at least, thought it would now be appropriate to widen the subject matter in the Newsletter.

There are undoubtedly many other ways in which the Newsletter might be used to inform members about the life of the church. Any member who has a view on the sorts of matters we could cover is invited to talk to us.

The idea of having a major theme for each issue is retained in this issue. The theme is “Kindness” and there are several articles and comments on that theme. However, the issue also contains a variety of other material and the Editorial Committee will be guided by the reaction of readers as to the approach taken in future issues. After all it is the members’ Newsletter!
