The Baptistery Screen
Early photos of the church show two sliding screens,
which were pulled out from within the walls on either side of the front of the
baptistery. When the Last Supper stained glass illuminated mural was installed
in 1964 it was decided that the screens should remain open. However, in winter a
cold breeze often made its way through the opening in the wall recesses in which
the screens were located. The problem was solved by sealing the openings on
either side of the front of the baptistery. The wooden screens remain inside the
wall cavities.
From The Crypt
The Church organ pipes (above the entrance to the
sanctuary) are held up with steel stanchions, which are embedded in concrete
under the church. Access is via a manhole at the back of the church. One of the
concrete bases contains the initials of three people, two of whom are still with
us. Rod Lavender is the man to talk to for further information.
