The following readings from the Lamentations of Jeremiah, could be used. Where possible, the first reader should be an indigenous Australian, the second a non-indigenous Australian.
Reader 1: Hear, all you peoples, and behold my suffering; my young women and young men have gone into captivity. [Lamentations 1.18]
Reader 2: Our ancestors sinned; they are no more, and we bear their iniquities. [Lam 5.7]
Reader 1: Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to aliens. We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are widows. [Lam 5.2-3]
Reader 2: Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us; look, and see our disgrace! [Lam 5.1]
