| In
1993 the ACT Housing Trust asked
the Baptist Community Services if
they would like to run a community
centre in the Stuart Flats complex
in Manuka which they had set up
and had been unable to run
satisfactorily. We said 'yes' and
we painted the whole centre,
tidied it up and modified it as a
joint effort between three
churches: the Baptist, Wesley
Uniting and St Paul's. We opened
for business 21 April 1994. |

The
aim of the exercise is to help
underprivileged people in our immediate
vicinity and through a series of
developments (trying different things) we
now open on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday
from 12.00 to 2.00 to make available to
anyone who calls in, free bread, free
emergency food parcels and a cuppa if
required . Also a ladies group is
operating from 10.30 to 12.30 Wednesdays.
About 30 people are involved from all
three churches of which ours supplies
about ten. Others supply food through 'Mother
Hubbard's Cupboard', soup, and used
clothing. We supply up to 35 parcels on a
Sunday and normally up to 15 on Tuesdays
and Fridays.
