Rev. Moriah Hurst

Moriah joined the team at Canberra Baptist Church for the second time in August 2008. She worked for the church as its youth worker from January 2004-June 2005 and returned to join the pastoral team as one of its ministers, with primary responsibilities for youth and young adults (13-25 years old). Moriah holds a Masters of Divinity with a focus in Youth Ministry from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Indiana, USA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (in English, Bible & Religion, Bio, and Women’s Studies) from Goshen College, Indiana, USA. She has experience in Christian camping, youth programming and Christian intentional community.

Moriah also worked for Irene’s Place: a house of discipleship and peace, as their community coordinator.

Rev. James 'Jim' Barr

Jim was Senior Minister of Canberra Baptist Church from August, 2005 to February 2010.

Rev. Jeanette Mathews (Previous Associate Minister)

Jeanette joined as Associate Minister in February 1997. She studied at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland, and then at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, before coming back to Australia to work within the Baptist denomination. She was part of the House of the Gentle Bunyip Community in Clifton Hill in Victoria before coming to Canberra. Jeanette has responsibility for the younger members of the church: the youth and young families, as well as preaching and teaching.  Jeanette was formally ordained into the Baptist Ministry on 24 October 1999.

Jeanette resigned at the end of July 2007 to pursue full-time study.

Rev. Dr Thorwald Lorenzen (Previous Senior Minister)

Thorwald came to Canberra Baptist Church in July 1995. Until that time he had been Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics at the International Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland.  He is a past chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of the Baptist World Alliance. His most recent book is Resurrection - Discipleship - Justice Affirming the Resurrection of Jesus Today (Smyth & Helwys Publishing, 2003) He is the General Editor of International Theological Studies. Contributions of Baptist Scholars, published by Peter Lang AG, Bern; and he is a contributing editor of Pulpit Digest and Faith and Freedom.

Thorwald retired from his ministry at Canberra Baptist Church in June 2005.
