THE DR A J  WALDOCK WINDOW

A tribute to the life and work of the Rev. Arthur John Waldock DD
First Minister of the Canberra Baptist Church (1929-1948)
NSW Baptist Home Mission Superintendent (1908-1924)
President of the Baptist Union of NSW (1906-1907, 1918-1919)
President-General of the Baptist Union of Australia (1941-1944)

Dr A J Waldock made his outstanding contribution to the Church in Australia in the field of missionary service. His 52 years in the ministry included terms as pastor at Hinton, Auburn, Mosman and Canberra. He was the first minister of this church and held that position for 19 years. In 20 years as Superintendent and Secretary of the NSW Baptist Home Mission Society he started 40 new churches, 69 church buildings and 12 manses.

The window was donated by the Australian Baptist Home Mission Board and unveiled on 10 September 1950 by the Rev. F Hoad.

The text

"Approved unto God" 2 Timothy 2:15 - "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by Him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth." (NRSV)

The window depicts Paul commissioning Timothy to carry out his tasks as a Christian missionary.

Referring to the aptness of the theme of the window in his address at the unveiling, the Rev. F Hoad said that Dr Waldock was both a saint and a true prophet of God. He had asked many to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and, by example, he had led them. He had left his mark on the Church in NSW and his influence had been felt by many.
